More About This Fishing Trip

The Miami Falls Canal System is also known as the Cutler Drain Canal, which provides excellent fishing for a variety of sport fishes. In addition to the remarkable and world-renown peacock bass, you can also land a largemouth bass. One of the other added benefits of fishing this amazing canal system is that you can also catch freshwater snook and tarpon. Peacock bass were introduced to South Florida by FWC to control the population of other exotic species and the result is one of the best freshwater species you can catch.

Cutler Drain Canal anglers can also catch several exotic species including oscar, spotted tilapia and midas cichlids. All of these species have been illegally released in South Florida and have flourished here on the Falls Canals System. The system and other area canals receive a great deal of fishing pressure so guides encourage anglers to release most, if not all, Butterfly Peacock Bass, Largemouth Bass, Snook or Tarpon they catch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should we bring/wear? -- Bring any medications you might need. Polarized fishing glasses are preferred, but sunglasses are fine. Other suggestions include a hat, both a long and short sleeve shirt and rain gear if you prefer. Deck shoes, tennis shoes or sandals are the most comfortable footwear. Sunscreen in most cases is also needed; because of sensitive skins, guides suggest you bring your own. You will need to bring along your fishing license. Bring your favorite drink and a snack. Yes, what's a fishing trip without a cold beer! It is permitted. All boats have built-in coolers filled with ice. Sorry, you are not allowed to bring your own cooler aboard the boat.

How many people can there be on this fishing trip? -- The preferred and most comfortable capacity is 1 or 2 persons, although 3 or 4 people per boat are often taken. The maximum is 4 persons per boat. The limits are set by the US Coast Guard.

Can I bring my kids? -- Absolutely, freshwater fishing is perfect for kids. The action is consistent, the fish are plentiful. There are alligators, birds, snakes and other native species that hang around the boats to keep them interested. Restroom facilities are usually close by most fishing areas. No problem taking a restroom break when needed. The guides enjoy working with children and instructing them on various fishing techniques, so all family members are welcome. Children of all ages are welcome with a maximum of three children per boat with an adult angler.

Do I need any fishing experience? -- No, your guides have all the experience that is needed. They love teaching others about the sport and coaching you through it all. People may have never fished a day in their lives but leave with a new understanding and an unforgettable experience.

What about the weather? -- In the summer it is hot and it can rain almost any day, mostly in the afternoon. Be prepared. Put sunscreen on early and bring rain gear if you have it. If not, the guides usually do. Watch the weather and be assured it is cooler on the water than land.

Is it rough out there? Will I get sea sick? -- No, you will never have to worry about sea sickness on this trip.

Does the guide fish? -- No, unless you specifically request it. Their job is to put you on the fish and give you the information you need to hook, fight and land your trophy fish. They've have done these thousands of times and know were the fish are, so there's no need for them to "test fish to locate them" on YOUR time!
